HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

ANPPCAN is a Pan-African network that promotes child rights and child protection in Africa. It was founded in 1986 in Enugu, Nigeria at the first Child Labour Conference. The organization has national chapters in 26 African countries and is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.

Our mission is to create and enhance partnerships and other opportunities for the prevention and protection of children from all forms of maltreatment, thus ensuring the realization of children’s rights.

ANPPCAN’s 26 chapters respond to the specific needs of children in their countries by developing appropriate program interventions. The Regional Office implements national and regional interventions on children that include direct program intervention, advocacy on specific issues as well as networking and partnership building on issues affecting children in Africa.

ANPPCAN Malawi Chapter is a welfare organization registered under the Trustees Act in 2004. Its mandate is to advance the rights and welfare of Children of Malawi, in particular the orphaned, vulnerable and marginalized women and children. The organization is committed to the promotion and protection of children and women’s rights through advocacy, monitoring, information sharing, Organizational and Community capacity building (rehabilitation) and resource mobilization.

Nationally, it is a member of the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and Human rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) and also Member of the newly formed NGO Coalition on Child Rights, Gender Coordinating Net Work NGO,GCN, while internationally affiliated to ANPPCAN Africa, a registered Pan-African international non-governmental organization, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and to the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (IPSCAN) in the USA, which was established in Amsterdam, Holland in April, 1981. Recent affiliations include; Global Match against Child Lab an International Organization based in India, and Young General Assembly in New York. African Unite against Child Abuse AFRICA also affiliated to Lifeline Southern Africa with its headquarters in South Africa.
